Note the following post-virtualization considerations:
| • | You must provide the location of required drivers. Use VMware Tools by right-clicking on the new VM and selecting Install/Upgrade VMware Tools. If VMware Tools is not installed on the newly created VM (usually because the source machine was a physical machine), then install VMware Tools by right-clicking on the VM in VMware Infrastructure Client and then select Install/Upgrade VMware Tools. |
| • | After virtualizing a physical machine (P2V virtualization), a message on the VM will prompt you to reboot the VM. You must reboot a VM created from a physical machine. |
| • | If the new VM has the same resolvable host name or IP address as the source node, the machine will be displayed in the Enterprise identically to the source node. However, if the VM was assigned a new resolvable host name or IP address, you will need to add the node to the Enterprise if you want the VM to be backed up. |
| • | For a new VM it is recommended to not use the existing backup job for that machine. Instead, create a new backup job for the VM. |
Note: The first backup of a new VM will be a Base backup, even if incrementals had been running on the source machine. This is done to ensure consistency of data.
| • | When you create a new VM, the iSCSI Initiator name associated with the new VM may change from its name on the physical source, depending on the Virtual Machine Name option you chose when creating the VM. (See “Virtual Machine Name”.) If you chose Use original host name, the iSCSI Initiator name will not change. However, if you chose Use host name and supplied a new host name, the iSCSI Initiator name will change. In either case, DPX will clear persistent targets stored in the iSCSI settings, and the new VM will not try to reconnect to the original iSCSI LUN after restart. |
