Start ECX
Launch ECX to begin using the application and its features.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN:
- ECX must be installed prior to starting the application. See Install ECX as a Virtual Appliance.
- The System Administrator must provide you with the IP address for the virtual appliance and the ECX user name and password.
- By default, the Help system accessed from the management interface is online. To ensure you are seeing the latest Help system, clear your browser cache before selecting Help. To use a local Help system that does not require an Internet connection click the arrow next to Help to open the About Catalogic ECX window. Select Use local help system. The local version might not contain the latest updates.
To start ECX:
- From a supported browser, enter the following URL:
- https://<HOSTNAME>:8443/portal/
- where <HOSTNAME> is the IP address of the virtual machine where the application is deployed. This connects you to ECX.
- In the logon dialog, enter your user name and password. If this is your first time logging on to ECX as a Super User, the default user name is admin and the default password is password. You will be prompted to reset the default Super User password.
- Click Sign In. The application launches. The Home tab displays the dashboard.
- Note: You are automatically logged out of ECX after 30 minutes of inactivity. Log back in with your user name and password to continue.

- After the first use, enable additional users to logon by adding native users or linking to an LDAP server. See Role-Based Access Control Overview.
- Add storage systems and virtual machine resources to the ECX database. See Register a Provider and Plan Overview.
- Search or browse for objects that match certain criteria. See Search for Objects and Browse Catalog.
- Generate reports with predefined or customized parameters. See Report Overview.
